Elisabeth first opened in Hungary just 4 years after opening in Vienna, in 1996 in open air in Szeged. It was later picked up by Budapesti Operettszínház and successfully played in Budapest for nearly a decade. As the theatre is repertoire type, it was always played in blocks of few shows (so not continually as in Vienna etc).
